Egyptian actor, Ezzat Abu Auf dies at 70

After years of battling with liver and heart problems, Ezzat Abu Auf passed away at the age of 70. The tragedy leaves behind his daughter Mariam, who is following in her father’s movie-business footsteps as a film director and a son, Kamal.

The acting legend was recently involved in a film alongside singer/actor Tamer Hosny but sadly passed before the project was completed.

Hosny posted a heartfelt message to his Twitter

“We belong to God and to him we return. The respectable artist and father Ezzat Abu Auf died. I ask you to pray for him. May God have mercy on all the dead.”

The news came as a shock to the Egyptian film world as Abu Auf’s close friend, Samir Fakih announced the news.

Fans also took to Twitter to honour the star

Abu Auf realised his passion for the arts and listened to his true calling after studying to become an obstetrician. He packed up and became a musician, forming a band aptly named 4M, with his sisters Mona, Maha, Manal and Mervat. and then later, an actor both in cinema and television.

Although his breakout role was in the 1992 musical “Ice Cream in Gleem” featuring mega-pop singer Amr Diab, he is best known for his role as Yasmine’s father, Khaled in Asrar el-banaat. The ground-breaking 2001 drama that sparked some major controversy. Abu Auf won a Horus award for Best Supporting Actor for the role.

RIP, Ezzat Abu Auf, you will be missed.
