Saudi woman arrested for stealing a newborn from hospital

A woman accused of kidnapping a newborn baby has been arrested. The woman, said to be in her 40s, took the baby from Maternity and Children Hospital in Buraidah on the 16 August during visiting hours.

She reportedly took the baby due to his parents being divorced. The father, however, has denied that there were tensions in the family and the woman did not need to intervene. “This is completely untrue. We have no rifts within our family. However, the are people who work in the dark to seed dissensions among the same family members even if they are living in complete harmony,” he said.

Abdul Rahim Al-Mishaiqh, the baby’s father, stated that the baby was returned safe and in good health. He also said that he did not doubt that his baby would be returned, stating: “I was never desperate of having him back because we are living in a country of safety and security.”

The woman is currently awaiting prosecution.
