It has been well over three weeks since the actor first hinted at the possibility of a Luther movie during a Zoom interview.
Fans of the popular BBC TV show can now rejoice as the actor has confirmed that a movie is in fact happening. Elba spoke with the press on Friday after receiving the BAFTA Special Award, saying, “I’ve maintained I’d like to see it come to a film, and that is where I think we are heading towards — a film. And I’m looking forward to making that happen. It is happening.”
He said: “With film, the sky is the limit. You can be a little bit more bold with the storylines. And a little bit more international, and a little more up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
The star was recognized by BAFTA for his craft and supporting new talent. When asked about his support, Idris said: “We’ve all got a duty — each one, teach one, and to give others an opportunity. I woudn’t be here if someone didn’t think I didn’t have talent. You have to pay it forward.”
Elba played the famous role of ‘Luther’ for the first time in 2010 has won two Golden Globes and a Royal Television Society best actor award for his acting skills.
