Fox News removes digitally altered images of Seattle protests

[ad_1]

A few days ago, Fox News published digitally altered images from the Seattle protests, causing a major controversy online. These protests which broke out in the wake of George Floyd’s death, have taken over part of Seattle which has “been home to speeches, music and a film screening about the criminal justice system,” as reported by news outlets.

The news channel has gone on record to state that the photo was actually a combination of pictures from various cities. In this fabricated image, a man was holding a rifle in the of a store that seemed to have broken windows. Another image displayed a burning car and a store, with a person running down the street captioned, “Crazy Town.”

A editor’s note has now been added saying, “A FoxNews.com home page photo collage which originally accompanied this story included multiple scenes from Seattle’s ‘Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone’ and of wreckage following recent riots. The collage did not clearly delineate between these images, and has since been replaced. In addition, a recent slideshow depicting scenes from Seattle mistakenly included a picture from St. Paul. Fox News regrets these errors.”

This mishap was first spotted by The Seattle Times which stated that this was “a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.”
