Reel Palestine Film Festival is returning to Dubai’s Cinema Akil

Reel Palestine is returning for its sixth edition at Cinema Akil this month. Along with showcasing Palestinian films, the festival brings with it an artisanal market and a chance to meet some of the region’s most inspiring filmmakers.

The organization, which was started by a group of friends coming together in 2014, is a not-for-profit, volunteering movement whose purpose is to showcase Palestinian culture and tenacity through the medium of film. For those attending, this festival collects movies that bring together a collection of beautiful, emotional and difficult moments; more importantly, the festival addresses the most pressing issues facing the people of Palestine.

With a promising schedule this year, the festival will showcase films that include titles such as ‘It Must Be Heaven’, directed by Elia Sulieman, ‘Gaza’, directed by Gary Keane and Andrew McConnell and ‘Western Arabs’, directed by Omar Shargawi; some of these filmmakers will be present through the festival for Q&A sessions for a deeper insight into their creative worlds.

Cinema Akil is an independent cinema platform in Al Serkal Avenue, the first arthouse cinema of its kind here in the GCC.
