It’s not too long before Ford v Ferrari hits theatres, so naturally the cast are making their rounds on talk shows to promote their film.

Matt Damon recently stopped by on the Ellen Show to discuss his latest project, and shared with Ellen what is was like working on a movie about cars. Ford v Ferrari, which also stars Christian Bale alongside Damon, takes inspiration from the real-life story of Carroll Hall Shelby and Ken Miles, the pair who build a car together to win the 24 hours of Le Mans, a daylong race.

“It’s about their friendship and this crazy thing they tried to do in beating Ferrari in 1966,” said the actor.

Obviously, there were a few perks while working on the job. When presented with the opportunity of riding with the racing legend Mario Andretti at Indianapolis 500, the actor just couldn’t refuse.

Andretti would take the actor and others for fast drives as an exercise to convey the thrill of the sport, something that the director, James Mangold was keen on capturing on film.

“You have to feel it to understand,” he said. “And I think in [Ford v Ferrari], we try to give you that feeling … to feel like you are in those cars going that speed.”

Ford v Ferrari releases in the UAE on November 28.
