Earlier this week, Egyptian footballer Amr Warda faced allegations of sexual harassment. Instagrammer Merhan Keller posted screenshots of an interaction between her and the midfielder in which he attempted to coerce her into spending time with him by saying he’s only in the country for one day. The Dubai-based Egyptian model shared Warda’s abusive reaction when the advances were rejected.
After Keller’s posts when viral, a number of women began sharing their experiences with the footballer, accusing him of being violent and inappropriate. There is a lengthy thread on Twitter that compiles all the tweets.
Amidst the allegations, Warda is now under ban from AFCON 2019 starting Wednesday, to “ensure discipline and focus” among teammates. Al Araby reported the news after Egypt’s head coach dismissed the concept of a ban, saying, “Warda is with the team. Warda is training very well. Everybody is following the rules. My rules. After that I have nothing to say.”
Teammate Mo Salah has since spoken out regarding the claims
Women must be treated with the utmost respect. “No” means “no”. Those things are and must remain sacred. I also believe that many who make mistakes can change for the better and shouldn’t be sent straight to the guillotine, which is the easiest way out.

We need to believe in second chances… we need to guide and educate. Shunning is not the answer.

Previously, Warda played for Greek team PAOK but was booted last year for allegedly sexually harassing wives of his teammates.
