It has been a little over a year since BBC’s cult detective drama, Luther, aired its fifth season for fans worldwide.
Now, it’s lead star, Idris Elba, is hinting a possibility of a feature film. The actor who plays the role of ‘John Luther,’ a detective for London Metropolitan Service, received a lot of critical acclaim during his time on the show. While the last season ended with several plot twists, no news about a possible season 6 have emerged since then.
Speaking in an interview over Zoom for his current show, The Long Run, Elba was asked about the future of Luther. “There isn’t a real formal plan for Luther at the moment,” he said “I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther,” he shared.
This is not the first time the actor has hinted that the show will get a movie. “Luther has all the ingredients to echo those classic films of the ’90s like Seven and Along Came A Spider and I think what we’d like to attempt is use that as a blueprint to create it,” Elba had said in an interview back in 2018. “It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther. Essentially we just want to try and take it to a much bigger remit and scale and perhaps international as well, ” Elba added.
