Meet the stars of Disney's Aladdin

[ad_1]

This weekend saw the release of the live-action remake of Disney’s Aladdin. And, if you haven’t heard, it’s brilliant. Although the music, set design, costumes and basically everything else are perfection, it’s the cast that really makes the film come to life. However, aside from Will Smith, we don’t really know much about our stars.

So, let’s get to know them!

Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine

26-year-old beauty Naomi Scott was born and raised in London. Her mother is of Gujarati Indian descent and her father is English. Aladdin is not Naomi’s first taste of Disney life though as she landed her first major acting role on Disney Channel UK’s series Life Bites. She’s been in a fair few TV roles since, but it’s her role as the Pink Ranger that we recognised her from. Naomi was also cast in The Martian alongside Matt Damon, but all her scenes were unfortunately cut from the final edit.

Naomi also made a little appearance in the music video of this long-lost bop

Mena Massoud as Aladdin

Our leading man, Mena Massoud was born in Cairo, Egypt to Egyptian parents. He and his family moved to Canada when he was young, hence the accent. Mena is a proud vegan and actually founded the vegan foodie travel show Evolving Vegan. His first job was on the 2011 show Nikita where he played a member of the Al Qaeda for one episode but since then he’s played Tarek Kassar in the award-winning show Jack Ryan.

Marwan Kenzari as Jafar

With a very impressive filmography, 36-year-old Marwan has a number of hit films under his belt including The Mummy, Murder on the Orient Express and Ben-Hur. The Tunisian was born in the Netherlands and is fluent in Arabic, Dutch, French and English. With no desire to become an actor, Kenzari fell onto the scene when his girlfriend at the time signed them both up for a rendition of Chicago. There’s one reason to be grateful for your ex!

Marwan also played real-life spy Ashraf Marwan in The Angel

Navid Negahban as the Sultan

Everyone’s favourite baba was portrayed by 50-year-old Iranian, Navid Negahban. Navid obviously has a flare for crime as his past roles have been on hit shows such as CSI, NCIS and The Shield. He was also in American Sniper which received multiple accolades including an Academy Award.

Navid is also currently killing it on the Netflix hit, Legion

Will Smith as the Genie

Don’t be silly.
