Nike launches a swim hijab in their new swimwear line

While this may feel like long time coming, kudos to Nike for finally adding a swim hijab to their new line. Along with this, the Nike Victory Swim Collection will feature a full-coverage swimsuit along with tunic tops and swim leggings, catering to hijab-wearing women around the world.

“We realized that there are some women who are under-served,” noted Martha Moore, Vice President of Design at Nike while launching the collection in Dubai. “Our goal at Nike is to make sport a daily habit from when you’re really little to when you’re really old and I was seeing people not feeling comfortable in the water because they didn’t have the right innovation or the right product to wear to be able to do any sport in or around the water,” she added.

The fabric is lightweight, breathable and fast-drying with UPF40+ sun protection, as per Nike. This comes after the sports company released the Pro Hijab back in 2017 which proved to be a huge success. The company wanted to fill the gap and cater to athletes “who don’t want to choose between modesty and movement with comfort and confidence.”

“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a Hijab,” Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari. “I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and … so few of them actually work for me. But once I put it on and took it for a spin on the ice, I was blown away by the fit and the light weight.”
