Another day, another Disney remake. The longer the list of live-action Disney remakes gets, the more satisfied I am with the state of the universe. But, I suppose I’m easy to please.
As kids, our first references of characters such as Princess Jasmine and Ariel are from Disney and we expect them to be a certain way. I, for one, couldn’t imagine a blonde Belle or a green Genie – not for any other reason than the fact that that’s not what we know.
So, whenever a live-action version is in the works, we all begin to form ideas of how the creatives are going to take the characters out of cartoon-form and into human-form. Disney has recently announced that the “human version” of Ariel, will be actress Halle Bailey (not to be confused with Halle Berry).
The thing about The Little Mermaid is that it was really only Ariel’s hair that made her different from the other princesses – a hair colour that no one really has naturally anyway, so no harm done there as long as that hair is red.
But, other people have different issues with the casting
In fact, there’s a whole #NotMyAriel trending tag on Twitter
But, others are having absolutely none of it
And raising some valid points
ALSO THIS
This is a majorly conflicted situation but, let’s be honest, we’re going to love this film regardless of the drama. SO EXCITED.
