Two ancient pyramids have opened in the Egyptian city of Cairo, revealing a collection of newly found evidence of well-preserved mummies.

As reported by Arab News, a team of archaeologists had found sarcophagi and remains of an ancient wall, dating back to the Middle Kingdom around 4000 years ago. Opening to visitors from the first time since 1965, this is the Bent Pyramid of King Sneferu who was the first pharaoh of Egypt’s 4th dynasty.

“Several stone, clay and wooden sarcophagi were found and some contain mummies in good condition,” the antiquities ministry said in a statement.

This also included funerary masks and tools used for cutting stones from the Late Period. The finds, which were found by extraction work in the royal necropolis of Dahshur on the west bank of the Nile River, were discovered in an area where some of Egypt’s oldest pyramids are situated.

Since the uprising in 2011, Egypt has laid emphasis on shedding light on the country’s rich history by attracting tourists from worldwide with its archaeological discoveries.
