MTV’s VMAs adds quarantine categories

The VMAs want to honor musicians that have focused on live performances and created music videos from their homes during the coronavirus pandemic.

The two female pop stars leading nominations are Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, with nine nominations each, including ‘Video of the year,’ ‘Song of the year’ and ‘Best Collaboration’ for their song, ‘Rain on Me’. In addition, Grande’s song with Justin Bieber, ‘Stuck with U’ has been nominated in the new ‘Best Music from Home’ category alongside Drake’s ‘Toosie Slide.’

Other artists that are featured in the best quarantine performance category include John Legend, Post Malone and DJ D-Nice. These artists have made appearances on virtual concerts, fundraisers and social media events.

The winners will be picked by fans through online voting. The award ceremony is set to become to first event to physically take place after the coronavirus lockdown at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 30.
