Simpsons fans claim the show predicted the coronavirus

The hit TV show The Simpsons is notorious for a number of things, one of which is its ability to predict global events. Over the years, it has predicted the horse-meat scandal, the invention of autocorrect and one no one saw coming – Donald Trump’s presidency.

Now, there are new claims that she show managed to predict the coronavirus which is spreading throughout the world. In fact, there are quite a few claims on Twitter that show the episode, created in 1993.

The episode shows a number of packages being delivered to the residents of Springfield, containing a deadly flu-like virus that then spreads through the air – which we now know is not applicable to the coronavirus. However, this is a little bit more of a stretch than previous predictions. The flu on the show is actually dubbed the “Osaka Flu” as it originates in Japan (not China as coronavirus.) The image circulating depicting the local news anchor, Kent Brockman sitting in front of a graphic which read ‘Corona Virus’, is a hoax.

The image actually says “Apocalypse Meow” which can be seen underneath the photoshopped image. Sorry, folks, it looks like this one doesn’t really add-up.
