Getting older means the appeal of late nights and small-talk with strangers, as well as your patience ceases to exist. So, what do you do when you want to meet new people with these new-found (lack of) interests? Well, that’s where the wonderful world of Reddit has come in.

An AskReddit thread has asked 30-somethings how they meet new people and whether you’re looking for advice or a little giggle, you’re in for a treat.

Let’s start simple

“Meeting people isn’t difficult at all: Attend a social event, walk up to someone, extend your hand, and say your name.”

‘Sound’ advice

“Hobbies. I play bass, so most people I know are band mates and other people in the music scene.”

The harsh reality

“It’s too much work and not rewarding. Most people want to tell you about their important job or their resort vacation. Nobody ever starts with, “I think the universe is a simulation.” or “why does everyone think their god is the real one?””

Relate

“Against my will.”

Connect with people

“Nuts to that. When I’m not working or with my family I prefer solitude. I have one friend that I’ve kept in contact with over the years, and that is mostly through texting.”

Same

“I dunno maybe it’s because of my job but these days I find myself trying to get away from people in my free time.”

I don’t know if this is the best approach

“I often find if you stare at someone long enough, they turn around.”

Seems the healthiest option

“Cry for hours and hours. Eventually your tears form a pool. Within that pool you see a person, that is your new friend.”

This actually makes sense

“Set an alarm to talk to someone randomly once a day. You get better at it.”

But then there’s this realisation

“Why the hell would I want to meet NEW people, I barely wanna know the ones I already do.”
