During a performance in London’s Hyde Park, Stevie Wonder announced the news of his upcoming transplant. Wonder told the audience that he is scheduled to have a kidney transplant later on this year and he already has a donor in place.
“I’m going to have surgery, I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year.” He then reassured fans that he was okay by saying “I’m all good, I have a donor, it’s all good. I want you to know, I came here to give you my love and to thank you for your love. You ain’t gotta hear no rumours about nothing, I told you what’s up – I’m good.”
Typically, a kidney transplant is used for patients suffering from kidney failure or disease.
Over the past few months, there has been speculation that the 69-year-old was having some health concerns when, on June 25 a video went viral from a Philadelphia radio DJ claimed that he was suffering kidney failure and has begun dialysis.
Marcus Belgrave, a close friend was also reported as saying, “He’s in great spirits. You would never know anything is going on. That’s how he wants it, and that’s how he wants to keep it,” Belgrave said. “He’s making music and doing what he does, and that’s what he wants to focus on.”
