Even though they are a team of fake doctors, Grey’s Anatomy will incorporate the coronavirus pandemic in season 17.
As fans are aware, the previous season had to be cut short because of the virus outbreak. In the new season however, popular character, ‘Meredith’ will be seen facing the COVID-19 outbreak along with her team of doctors.
“We’re going to address this pandemic, for sure. There’s no way to be a long-running medical show and not do the medical story of our lifetime,” said showrunner Krista Vernoff during a Television Academy panel on Tuesday. She also stated that her writers are currently working closing with real-life doctors and frontline workers to educate themselves about the impact this pandemic has had on health care.
“Every year, we have doctors come and tell us their stories, and usually they’re telling their worst or their funniest or craziest stories, and this year, it has felt more like therapy,” Vernoff said. “The doctors come in and we’re the first people they’re talking to about these types of experiences they’re having. They are literally shaking and trying not to cry, they’re pale, and they’re talking about it as war — a war that they were not trained for.”
There is still no word on when filming this new season will commence but Vernoff said that the creators are in talks about how to maintain an air of humor and romance will still dealing with such painful stories.
