Desperate times call for the kindest gestures. While all forms of entertainment outlets such as cinemas remain shut, Majid Al Futtaim has created a back-up plan for its employees that lost their jobs.
The company has re-assigned its workers to the local branches of Carrefour, where the need for extra hands is now more than ever. This includes staff from VOX Cinemas, Ski Dubai, Magic Planet and Little Explorers.
“I am extremely proud of each one of them as they have shown a relentless desire to support their colleagues across the company – and ensure our customers continue to have access to essential items,” said Alain Bejjani, chief executive officer at Majid Al Futtaim. “While our redeployment efforts come during unprecedented times, a recent World Economic Forum report suggested that by 2022, 54 per cent of the total workforce in an organisation will require significant reskilling and upskilling. “The current situation has accelerated the need for employees to stay competitive and will require companies to relook at how they utilise their talent,” he added.
The retained staff will now be working in warehouses, distribution centres and assist in completing online orders.
As of today, the UAE government has urged its residents to stay indoors for the next three days as the sterilisation drive takes face to fight the spread of coronavirus.
