Watch these FC Barcelona fans relive their Camp Nou memories through art

Memories don’t just happen out of nowhere — they’re made by the human mind.

The mind uses a foolproof process to convert recent memories into long-term memories. It also uses the act of forgetting, and yes it is a deliberate act, to make us focus on and cherish the memories we desperately want to keep with us.

But what if memories could be more than just feelings, connections, and experiences? What if they could be manifested into the physical world? Something you could touch, feel, and marvel at? After all, we as humans crave for physical objects and tangible experiences.

UAE-based RAKBANK explored this quest with a group of unsuspecting FC Barcelona fans in a unique social experiment that saw memories turned into a piece of art.

Termed MEMOTRAITS (Memory + Portrait), this experiment transformed emotional data into abstract art with the help of an Electroencephalography (EEG) headset.

All the Barca fans were hooked up to an EEG headset that monitored their brainwaves while they shared their memories of Camp Nou and the thrill of watching FC Barcelona play live at the home stadium.

The headset captured three specific types of emotions—Concentration, Excitement, and Relaxation—turning them into data points.

An algorithm specially designed for this experiment then assigned values and a shade of color to each data point, related to FC Barcelona brand colors: Blue for Concentration, a shade of Garnet for Excitement, and Yellow for Relaxation.

For over 100 years, these colors have come together on the shirts of FC Barcelona players, especially blue and garnet; this is why the football club is also known as the equip blaugrana (blue and garnet team)

As you can see in the video, more patterns evolved in FC Barcelona brand colours as fans shared more of their Camp Nou memories and transformed this raw data into art.

Thanks to MEMOTRAITS, these fans will be able to touch, see and relive their cherished memories of Camp Nou every day of their lives.
