Let’s be honest, Disney is a literal lifestyle. So, as Disney lovers, we love the old, the new, the original and the remake. When remakes are released, they always stand on thin ice and can majorly make or break a film franchise. And, as fans, we’re always a little skeptical with whether or not we could possibly love our fav flicks more. However, you can almost never go wrong when it comes to Disney.
Here are the absolute best Disney remakes that you simply must add to your movie marathon list.
Aladdin
Released over the weekend, we’ve waited almost 30 whole years for Aladdin to be brought back to life. Starring Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith, this flick is making all our wishes come true.
Dumbo
For anyone who weeps uncontrollably at “Baby Mine,” you’re going to need a lifetime’s supply of tissues for this one. As adorable as ever, Dumbo is back alongside a star studded cast of Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green and Alan Arkin.
The Jungle Book
Showing a slightly darker side to the Rudyard Kipling novel, the 2016 version of The Jungle Book is a less colourful depiction. Lending their voices to the various creatures are Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken.
Beauty and the Beast
Emma Watson as Belle is possibly one of the most genius casting choices that ever was. However, it doesn’t stop there as Ewan McGregor, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Stanley Tucci, Sir Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson also star.
Cinderella
As possibly the closest to its original of all the films on the list, Cinderella is simply magic. From Lily James’ angelic curls to Helena Bonham Carter’s rendition of the Fairy Godmother, this is guaranteed to make you fall in love.
Maleficent
Maleficent tackles some pretty adult issues and gives us a chance to get to know exactly what makes a villain – if you can consider Maleficent a villain at all after this. Angelina Jolie owns the role, making this a definite must-watch.
Alice in Wonderland
What better way to enhance the madness that is Alice in Wonderland than under the creative hand of Tim Burton? If you’re a fan of the weird and wonderful, treat yourself to another example of Johnny Depp’s character chameleoning.
The Lion King (in theatres July 19)
We’re SO excited for the live action remake of The Lion King. With Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Beyonce and the return of legend James Earl Jones, this one’s already a winner.
