Ed Sheeran is semi-retiring from music and here’s why

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but here’s something not-so-happy to end the week with. The world’s favorite redhead, Ed Sheeran has revealed that he will be taking some time off from making music at the age of 28.

The reason? Ed wants to spend more time with his partner, Cherry Seaborn. The childhood sweethearts got married in a secret ceremony last year in October.

Just having wrapped up his two-year long ‘Divide’ tour, the singer took to the stage at Chantry Park to tell his fans he has some news to share with them.

“As you may or not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing. There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months,” he said.

Admitting that it felt a little bit like a bittersweet breakup from a relationship, and holding back some tears, Sheeran spoke to the audience about how surreal the experience has been with his latest album. Not only did it ensure that he travel the world and then some, but his recent tour is one where he has played to around 9 million people, making it the biggest one yet.

This isn’t the first time the ‘Shape of You’ singer has decided to go into hibernation. He had taken a year off from music before he blessed us with ‘Divide’.

And while we know in our hearts that this break is much needed for goofy, brightly-inked singer, we are secretly hoping that he comes back soon, with more music to share with the world.
